Are SMMEs reluctant to adopt tech or simply out of their depth?
Technology has become a key driver of efficiency and therefore the success of multinational businesses, so it is interesting that SMMEs are not embracing this trend. There are a number of issues which prevent startups from embracing technology, chief among these is digital illiteracy.
When compared to global counterparts, research shows that South African business owners are not as digitally ‘ambitious’. Although, if the Sage customer followership is anything to go by, it indicates that more small business owners are beginning to understand the advantages of technology adoption.
Small business are also better positioned to take advantage of the digital migration, given that they do not have legacy systems. ultimately more support is required from big businesses and government to enable this cultural mind shift that will propel long-term technology integration for SMMEs
