Female entrepreneurship: Is South Africa winning the gender inequality struggle?

South Africa still grapples with issues concerning gender inequality.
On a global level, the facts show that even though women are prevalent in global workforce, education, employment and wealth indicators still favor their male counterparts – there are parallels to South African trends.
A panel of South African panelists discuss this disparity and have highlighted a few elements from their own experiences:
  • Although the panel agrees that South Africa can do better, they celebrate the strides made to put a spotlight on female entrepreneurship as well as their achievements such as job creation
  • A few challenges highlighted include perceptions of women’s abilities to contribution and participate in mainstream economy, challenges accessing information and funding, barriers as result of family responsibility among others
  • To eradicate such barriers the panel discussed options such as education, mindset shifts and removing cultural barriers
