Call for Nominations: 2018 MTN Women in ICT
The MTN Women in ICT – Partnership for Change Awards, now in its third year, is calling for nominations for phenomenal women in ICT before 12 August 2018. The awards aim to make a real difference by helping close gender gaps and set more women on course to lasting and exciting ICT careers.
South Africa’s communications minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane, recently spoke about the fact that women’s participation in the local information and communications technology (ICT) sector is “woefully low”.
UN reports show participation at less than 30% in the sector globally, but the situation in South Africa is far worse. A major concern is that young women are not receiving the support or encouragement needed to enter the sector: the 2017 Global Gender Gap Report states that only 13% of SA graduates in the Stem (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields are women.
